Pathery
About

Something to do while you wait.

Pathery is a set of free self-help tools, written by a therapist, for the time when you need something and there is nothing there. Maybe you are waiting for an appointment, or between sessions, or not ready to book one at all.

Where this came from

In my clinical practice I often give clients worksheets to fill in between sessions. Few really do, for reasons I completely understand — worksheets are boring and cold. Lately some clients have turned to chatbots, which many find genuinely helpful, although they work differently from a short structured exercise.

I kept thinking there should also be something simple to give clients in that gap. Not a replacement for therapy, not a course to complete — just one useful thing they could do that evening.

Who made it

My name is Will Sham. I have spent eight years in clinical practice and I am currently completing a doctorate in counselling psychology. If you want to check who is behind this, my LinkedIn profile is here.

Pathery is mine alone. It is an independent project, not connected to any clinic, hospital, or health service. Nobody is paying for it or profiting from it.

Pathery is an anagram of therapy. Same letters, different thing.

What the tools draw on

The tools come from the talking therapies I use in my own work — mainly third-wave cognitive behavioural approaches and acceptance and commitment therapy. In practice that means less time spent arguing with your thoughts, and more spent noticing what you do when they arrive, and choosing differently.

Everything here is adapted from published clinical models, not invented. Nothing in it comes from any individual I have worked with.

How it works, and what it isn’t

Everything on Pathery today is free to use. There are no accounts, no ads, and no tracking, and nothing you type leaves your device or is stored anywhere — you can read exactly how that works on the privacy page. If I ever add anything paid, the tools that are free now will stay free.

It is also not therapy. It does not diagnose anything, it is not a medical device, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. The disclaimer sets that out properly.

Where it is going, and how to reach me

Two tools are live now, on worry and on activity. This is genuinely early, but more are coming.

If you have thoughts on Pathery itself, I would like to hear them: hello@pathery.app. I read that address myself, but I cannot offer support or advice by email. If you need help with how you are feeling, please speak to a professional.
